I need to…
- do my taxes
- fix my broken garage door
- read several books for a class I’m taking
- work out
- study for and write a sermon
- return a few phone calls
- answer my email
- plan the summer sermon series
- eat
- etc., etc., etc.,
Jesus said to Martha, “There is only one thing you need.”
HHHHhhhhmmmmmmmmmm.
I think I still need to do everything on the bullet list. The point is, I can’t allow them to press Jesus out of my life. Knowing Jesus is more important than all of them and needs to be a part of all the these good and necessary things.
What do you think?

If you put the bullet list in a wheel with Jesus as the hub, he’ll be the center of all you do.
“…so I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth.” Ps 116:9
Ah, I appreciate Mrs. Deloe’s response with Jesus at the center of our wheel. Prioritizing Christ at the center of our life is a constant battle, especially because Satan knows our weaknesses when it comes to being too busy. We try to do everything in our own strength and far too often I find myself relating to Martha and wish that I could somehow be a Mary and take time to sit at Jesus’ feet.
I think the easiest way to keep God in the center of what you do is to base what you are doing with him. For example, if you have to clean out the garage, put on some christian music or listen to the bible on cd. If you need to walk your dog, bring your ipod with music to remind you of God’s unending love. If you want to work out have something like music or whatever you find what relates to you most with you. That way, you don’t squeeze God out of your life.
But sometimes I have to admit, I can forget about God. Sometimes when I have to finish five different projects for school and I’m frustrated, I don’t even think about God. Sometimes if you really want God to be the focus of your life, you have to try hard to keep his love for you in mind. That way, you have God on your mind if a biology classmate says something rude. You have God to counsel you in how to react with wisdom.
